Mesut Alp

Biography

Mesut Alp is an archaeologist by profession, who, after numerous national and international archaeological excavations across Anatolia and Northern Mesopotamia, has become one of the leading story tellers in Turkey. 

Paris-based Alp is the producer of award-winning animation Judi of the Wishes (2021), and the documentary Monologue (2023). He is the director and scriptwriter of two short films, From Heart to Stone: Master Yusuf (2012) and Weddings without Grooms (2011). He also served as the scriptwriter of two documentaries on Mardin’s Midyat district.

His play Gilgamesh was staged by the Royal Flemish Theatre (KVS) in 2023-24. He has recently served as a dramaturg in the singing and storytelling performance Dengbêj in the Disco, which combines traditional Kurdish singing with the story of a singer living in exile. 

He is the author of two books, Mardin from Tales to Legends (2015, English/Turkish) and Qoser (2008, Turkish/Kurdish).

Alp also produces bilingual (Kurdish and Turkish) content on the history, archaeology, geography and the belief systems of Anatolia and Northern Mesopotamia on his Youtube channel.

He founded Welat Productions in 2019.
